Advice from the experts

Bob Cotton, who has spent a lifetime in the hospitality industry and is a member of P&G Professional's Expert Advisory Council, has the following advice:

"Seventy per cent of Brits are expected to stay in a hotel within the next six months according to a new report by P&G Professional, so there is a light at the end of the tunnel for our industry. I recommend following three important rules during this extraordinary time.

"The first is a thorough and deep clean as venues continue to reopen. Establishments have been left undisturbed, which can cause problems for certain appliances and systems. For example, the decline in water use has led to a lack of chlorinated water flowing through pipes and with irregular temperature changes, bacteria that causes Legionnaires' disease is prone to grow. A thorough clean allows disinfectants to work more effectively.

"Forty-five per cent hotel guests expect more thorough and frequent cleaning, and the same number want to see visible signs of cleaning during their visit, from clear signage about new cleaning protocols to obvious use of familiar brands. Interestingly, 77% of hotel guests would be more likely to pick a hotel if they knew it was cleaned with brands they knew and trusted.

"Transparency to guests around cleaning processes can help businesses re-establish confidence with their clientele. UKHospitality members can apply for P&G Professional's CleanPLUS Experience, available as a window sticker or digital asset for website use. The stamp of approval from trusted household name brands offers a mark of assurance for guests. "
