Aviko raises £600 for gluten-free charity campaign

Potato products supplier Aviko has raised £600 for charity Coeliac UK.

The fundraising drive was timed to coincide with the company's Coeliac Awareness Week (11-17 May 2015). Throughout the week, the company donated £2 for every follow and retweet on its Twitter account, @AvikoUK, using the hashtag #AvikoGFHeroes.

The campaign sought to highlight the importance of gluten-free dishes on menus, and also looked to help operators draw attention to their gluten-free items at point of sale. Chef Daniel Ayton helped design gluten-free recipes to work alongside the initiative.

Anyone taking part was also entered into a competition to win a personalised chef's jacket, and five goody bags containing Aviko and Coeliac UK products.

Sarah Sleet, chief executive of Coeliac UK, said: "Eating out with confidence is really important for people with coeliac disease, as a strict gluten-free diet is the only treatment for people diagnosed with the autoimmune condition. We appreciate Aviko's very generous donation to the charity."

Aviko's products are produced in a gluten-free factory.
