Bio-GD FOG disperser from Chemex

Bio-GD provides a safe solution for caterers who face thousands of pounds in fines for blocking their drains with fats, oils and grease (FOG).

Disposing of these odour-emitting drain blockers has become tougher since new laws in July 2007 banned their disposal in landfill sites, while rodding blocked systems can cost up to £400.

Chemex's Bio-GD is a liquid blend of microbes that gobble up grease, fats, oils, proteins, starch and cellulose and convert them into carbon dioxide and water. They form a biofilm providing a continuous supply of enzymes that sticks to the walls of drainage systems, so it does not wash away and is resistant to cleaning fluids and disinfectants.

The Chemex team will treat grease traps, drains, lines, gulleys, wet wells, treatment systems and septic tanks, installing an automatic dosing unit after the initial drain clean, and will top up and maintain the system.

The cost is based on a number of factors, such as number of meals served, type of food and length of drain lines, but is said to average less than 2p per meal. Charges are paid quarterly on a minimum two-year contract.
