Brakes launches Vegware range of compostable packaging and disposables
Brakes has introduced a range of compostable food packaging and catering disposables from Vegware.
The range includes salad and take-away boxes, soup and deli containers, chip trays, hot drinks cups and lids and cutlery.
Vegware products are low-carbon and certified by an "Eco Audit" which allows caterers to analyse carbon saved compared with standard packaging, virgin material saved and total potential landfill production.
Vegware's UK customers saved 260 tonnes of carbon in 2011. All its products are made from renewable or recycled materials, including natural starches and fibres and can all be recycled along with day-to-day food waste.
James Armitage, marketing director at Brakes Group, said: "We wanted to be the first in food service to offer our customers a sustainable, functional, economic and stylish range of packaging and catering disposables.
"We selected Vegware as it offers the lowest environmental impact, best value and is the most stylish and practical range on the market. Vegware can also help any UK business divert catering waste from landfill through its Food Waste Network and will provide our clients with environmental audits as part of the invoicing."
Joe Frankel, managing director and founder of Vegware, said: "We have pioneered the development and manufacture of eco-friendly catering disposables and food packaging. Our award-winning range is the first and only completely compostable food packaging range in the UK.
