Case study – Bakehaus is serious about its WMF coffee machine

Marc Deuring, son of one of the founders, launched the concept in the UK in 2010 and plans to expand it.
Bäkehaus provides traditional German products, including kaiser rolls, schnitzels, rye breads and sourdoughs. The Germans are serious about their bread but of equal significance to their culture is coffee.
"In Germany we have used WMF coffee machines for over 10 years because they are built to a very high standard and the quality of the drinks they produce is excellent," says Deuring.
"When I brought Bäkehaus to London, there was no question that we would continue to use WMF's machines so we installed two 2000S models. Our operation is self-service so it is important that our machines are reliable and simple for customers to use. These machines are fast and can deliver a high volume of drinks in a short amount of time."
Deuring recently introduced various customer loyalty schemes. He says: "Initially we found that customers would come into the store to buy food after they had already bought a coffee from one of the large chains. I offered to swap their coffee for one of ours, free of charge, so they could sample the quality of our coffee. Many have now become loyal consumers of our coffee as they realise that our machines serve a great quality drink, and they don't have to queue as long!"
