Case study – Chaud Devant proves there's room for another brand of chefswear

The launch of the Chaud Devant brand of chefswear in the UK earlier this year may have had some people asking: "Is there room in the market for yet another chefswear brand?"

The opinion of one chef, Steve Munkley, executive chef of the Royal Garden hotel in London, is a resounding yes. He said: "We had been using the same brand of chefswear for a number of years but when CCS approached us with Chaud Devant we were willing to trial them to see how they fared.

"I instantly liked the look and feel of the jackets but I knew that the final decision would rest with our executive housekeeper, Nicole Davies, based on how well they survived staff putting them through numerous wash cycles and also my team wearing them."

Munkley explains: "We gave Chaud Devant jackets to one of our breakfast chefs and also to a sous chef and asked them to wear them every shift. I'll be honest, by the end of the three months the guys liked the fit and comfort so much they didn't want to give them back."

Davies adds: "The wash test gave us equally positive results and over the three-month time frame there was no visible distressing of the fabric, puckering of the seams or discolouring. Chaud Devant would be a brand we could work with going forward."
