Direct Seafoods to be first to offer British certified sustainable plaice
Direct Seafoods has been announced as the first supplier to offer British certified sustainable plaice certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC).
The Hastings Fishermen's Protection Society fishery is the first in Britain to receive MSC certification for plaice and Direct Seafoods, known for its commitment to sustainability, aims to begin selling the fish as soon as possible.
Operating from 27 boats on Stade beach, from where fishing boats have operated for over a thousand years, it is one of the oldest beach-launched fishing fleets in the UK. Hastings MSC Dover sole and herring is already available in a wide range of restaurants across the UK as well as some local restaurants and with plaice makes this a hat trick.
Laky Zervudachi, group sustainability director of Direct Seafoods, commented: "Sustainability is at the core of our business. The kitchens we supply are increasingly concerned with offering quality seafood sourced in a way that protects the oceans. We have worked with The Hastings Fishermen's Protection Society for some time now and are delighted to be the first to supply British MSC certified plaice, offering customers an even wider eco-friendly choice."
