Eat Tokyo's Yoshihiro Motohashi becomes UK Sushi Roll Champion for 2013

Yoshihiro Motohashi came out on top in the Eat-Japan Sushi Awards 2013, held at the Hyper Japan exhibition at Earl's Court, London, last month.

Motohashi, group head chef at Eat Tokyo, which has five restaurants in London, was one of five top chefs from across the country who competed for the title of UK Sushi Roll Champion 2013.

Exhibition visitors were invited to taste each of the sushi dishes and vote for their favourite.

Motohashi's dish was the Tokyo Special, consisting of eel, prawn and avocado layered in sushi rice and then double-wrapped in seared salmon and yellowtail tobiko and wasabi sauce.

Bing-yu Lee, UK manager of competition sponsor Kikkoman, who presented Motohashi with his certificate and traditional giant inflatable Kikkoman bottle, said: "The sushi was of world-class standard, but I am delighted for chef Motohashi and pass on our sincere congratulations."

Hyper Japan is the UK's largest Japanese culture event, covering food and drink, art, fashion, traditions and technology. This year's event was attended by 62,000 people.
