Eight college finalists named for 2012 Nestlé Toque d'Or competition
Eight colleges have been selected to compete in the Grand Finals of Nestlé Toque d'Or, the student catering competition that has now reached its 23rd year.
The student teams of three who will be battling it out over the four days from f17 to 20 May come from Blackpool & The Fylde College, Hull College, Liverpool Community College, Petroc, Sheffield City College, Shrewsbury College, South Downs College and Westminster Kingsway College.
They will be challenged to prepare, cook and serve a two-course, healthy lunch for six covers using Nestlé Chef and Maggi products for the main meal and Kit Kat, Rolo or Aero confectionery in the dessert. For the first time, they will also be exposed to a varied range of ‘real-life' hospitality scenarios.
"This year's Toque d'Or has been designed to test students' skills to the full, offering an unparallelled opportunity to participate on a number of levels and across a range of disciplines including business strategy and planning, menu development and customer service," said Neil Stephens, managing director at Nestlé Professional.
"Let's not forget this is about more than a competition. As the hospitality sector continues to grow, addressing the skills gap becomes even more important. It's indisputable that competitions like Toque d'Or play an important role in this and have tremendous value in encouraging the next generation of talent to experience the journey of discovery across all facets of foodservice, helping make students "job ready" upon completion of their education."
