German monastic beers from Pierhead

Beer importer Pierhead Purchasing offers three premium beers from Weltenburger Kloster, the world's oldest monastery brewery in Bavaria. The beers have distinctive flavours that benefit from low nitrate levels in the local water and from a three-month storage in stone cellars 40 metres below ground level. The line-up includes Barock Dunkel (4.7% abv), a slightly hopped dark beer that has been brewed on the site for nearly 150 years, and Barock Hell (5.6% abv), described as a lively, mild-hopped pilsner with spicy undertones, best served at 8¡C to accompany seafood and ethnic dishes. The third beer is Asam Bock (6.9% abv), a strong, dark doppelbock lager (6.9% abv) that combines black malt, hazelnuts and chocolate with hints of caramel and dried fruit. All three are sold in cases of 20 x 500ml bottles
