Host 2015, the biennial international hospitality exhibition, which took place in Milan last month, gathered together over 2,000 exhibitors at the Fiero Milano exhibition site.

With 714 international exhibitors and 47 nations represented, the fair covered some 24 pavilions and encompassed professional catering, bread, pizza, pasta, coffee/tea, bar/coffee machines and vending, furnishings and tableware.

Highlights at the show included the Innovation Smart Labels awards, which recognise products that stand out in terms of functionality, technology and environmental sustainability. Winners included Adventys for its Induc'Art induction table, Winterhalter for its PT ClimatePlus pass-through warewasher, Granuldisk for its GranuleSmart EcoExchanger and Hobart for its new generation PREMAX FTPi and PROFI FTNi warewashers.

Adande Refrigeration also won a Smart Label award for its Matchbox Hydrocarbon unit with a 19% energy saving, as did Gram Commercial for its Superior Plus refrigerator with energy saving.

The new Bonnet Compact Cooking Suite unveiled at the show was singled out with a Smart Label Award for the Equapan unit within the range, with the judges praising its energy saving technology.

The complete Bonnet Compact Kitchen Concept, which allows restaurateurs to save up to 40% space in a kitchen, incorporates a Bonnet Equapan, Precipan, Minijet Combi and FridgeBloc. All units can be bought separately.

Another innovation at the show was the new Espresso Hygiene from Schaerer (distributed by Caffeine Limited) a bean to cup machine with a new milk system.

The NC (no-clean) Foamer developed by Schaerer is eco-friendly and needs no chemicals. The disposable system is designed for use in the popular Schaerer Coffee Prime range of bean-to-cup espresso machines, and at the end of each shift the operator simply opens the door, unclips the NC Foamer and disposes of it. It's fully biodegradable and HACCP-compliant. The next day they simply clip in a fresh one.

Hoshizaki Europe and Gram Commercial also had some news to share; with Ole Brandorff-Lund, managing director of Gram Commercial and Jeff Basolis, managing director of Hoshizaki Europe announcing the following, with effect from January 2016: "With a view to improve our brand position across all Hoshizaki Group companies and remove any potential ambiguity within the European marketplace, both Hoshizaki and Gram sales networks will promote and sell their original brands:

"Hoshizaki world renowned ice makers, bins, dispensers and sushi cases, the majority of which are manufactured in Telford, UK.

"Gram premium refrigeration equipment including commercial cabinets and counters, bakery and process equipment. All products are designed and manufactured in Vojens, Denmark.

"Both sales networks will offer Snowflake refrigeration range. Hoshizaki's ECOSTANDARD refrigeration range will be phased out."
