Hygienic Vollrath utensils with silver-treated handles from FEM

The handles of kitchen utensils - which are generally used by more than one person - are notorious reservoirs of harmful microbes.

Vollrath has tackled this problem by embedding Agion, a silver-based compound, into the handles of its new range of ladles, serving scoops and tongs.

Agion starves dangerous bugs to death by blocking their cell reproduction and respiration. The handles are heat-resistant to 82°C and coloured to aid serving and size selection.

Ladles, which are available in six colours, are made from a single piece of stainless steel, stamped with the size for perfect portion control and made to within an accuracy of +/-5%.

The one-piece, stainless-steel tongs have a no-pinch, springless design and feature concave ends and gently-scalloped teeth, while the scoops, comprising a stainless steel bowl and components, come in nine colours and accurate sizes.

The utensils need to be cleaned after each use.
