iASC Seafood wins at World Innovation Awards

Irish food producer iASC Seafood has been awarded the Best New Foodservice Catering Product at the World Food Innovation Awards (WFIA) 2016, for its Seafood Umami Pearls.

The range of shellfish and seaweed protein-infused butters can be used as a base for sauces or in pastas, pies and paella, and were also shortlisted for Best New Food Ingredient.

Colin Ross, managing director at iASC Seafood, said: "It's a great honour to be given such a prestigious award as well as an objective endorsement from professionals.

"We envisage our product as giving caterers and restaurateurs a way of creating consistent, top quality flavoursome fish dishes, additionally enabling them to make a natural claim on menus. The bonus is that we can have a positive reduction on diners' sodium intake."

Beginning trading in 2013, iASC Seafood graduated from the Food Works Ireland programme, a joint initiative between Bord Bia, Enterprise Ireland and Teagasc, which finds and fosters the next wave of Irish food entrepreneurs.
