Jersey Food Festival celebrates the island's specialist produce
Jersey will host its annual Jersey Food Festival from Saturday 19 May to Sunday 27 May 2012, celebrating the island's specialist food offering. The festival will highlight the skills and tradition that lies behind sourcing local food for which Jersey is famous, including the Jersey Royals, dairy produce and shellfish.
A visit to the island presents a range of experiences, from fine dining at Michelin-star level to relaxed beach-side dining - all offering the diner fresh, quality local ingredients and access to an abundance of knowledgeable suppliers all keen to share their foodie passion.
Some of the experiences include: wine and chocolate tasting at the La Mare Wine Estate; Liberation Ale brewery tour; wild vegetables of the ocean and a Jersey Royal tour of the Albert Bartlett Pack House.
The island is steeped in history, tradition and skills spanning centuries and, despite its size, has become renowned for its culinary expertise, including three-Michelin-starred restaurants.
Additionally, the island has recently launched a Jersey Craft Guild of Chefs, which met for the first time recently at Highlands College.
The organisation for professional chefs was launched in Jersey this month to promote the island's hospitality industry and local restaurants, and help keep young talent in Jersey.
The guild is chaired by Eileen Buicke-Kelly, from the Highlands Academy of Culinary Arts; local chef Mark Jordan from the Atlantic Hotel and MJ@thebeach was elected vice-chair. Nineteen-year-old Glen Noel of the Atlantic Hotel, was elected youth liaison officer with Philippe Maratier of Hotel de France, Martina McGibney of Cimandis and Dave Chalk of Sandpiper CI completing the committee.
The committee will be promoting various events and competitions across Jersey, including Channel Island Chef of the Year.
