JJ Food Service launches smaller meat packs to support smaller caterers
National wholesaler JJ Food Service has launched smaller pack sizes for its fresh lamb and chicken, in a bid to support smaller caterers and retailers.
The company's fresh Welsh and Dorset lamb neck fillet lines are now available in 5kg packs, whereas previously they came in 10kg. Fresh chicken is now in 2.5kg packs, down from 10kg; while lamb shoulder will be available in 4kg packs, down from 8kg.
This is to support chefs, butchers and retailers, allowing smaller businesses to buy cheaper, more manageable packs.
JJ Food Service chief products officer Ali Guvemli said: "Our fresh lamb is free range and has been produced from prime, fully traceable, farm-assured animals. The range has been extremely popular with restaurants and hotels, but not everyone has the fridge space for large quantities."
The company supplies fully traceable and farm-assured lamb from Dorset, and Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) Welsh lamb. It also supplies A-grade, dry-slaughtered, halal-approved chicken, which is chilled in air instead of iced water to improve hygiene and avoid the meat absorbing any excess water.
A £183m family-owned business, it delivers from eight branches around the UK to coffee shops, pubs, restaurants, hotels, quick-service restaurants, schools and local authorities. It takes orders online and offers next-day delivery on order until 9pm, and same-day collection across the UK.
