Lavazza opens its first Espression café in UK

Italian coffee specialist Lavazza has opened its first UK Espression café -with food created by Ferran Adrià - in Belfast City Airport.

Set in the departure lounge of the airport, which handles two million visitors a year, it will be run by travel dining specialist Autogrill UK.

It is the 11th Espression café Lavazza has opened in the USA and Europe since launching its coffee shop division in 2002 - the concept was the winner of the Association for Retail Environment's 2008 Grand Award for Restaurant Design.

Espression marries Lavazza's signature espresso with Italian style and designer food created by Ferran Adrià, of three-Michelin-starred Spanish restaurant El Bulli, to create a vibrant "place for breaks, meetings and new ideas".

Menu items include breakfast products, sandwiches, salads, pastries, artisan gelato, hot and cold chocolate options and the light mousse Espessone

More openings are planned across Europe in 2010.
