A recent Mintel study showed 31% of 11- to 15-year-olds want chips on their school menu over anything else.

Encouraging children to stick with school dinners has proved a difficult task as caterers ditch chips for healthier alternatives, so Farm Frites has created a chip that contains just 0.5g of salt, and has less than 5% fat after frying.

The Nature's Goodness range, supplied in 6 x 2.5kg bags, also incorporates wedges and mash, the latter being the first product range in food service to use the FSA's traffic light system, highlighting fat, saturated fat, sugar and salt content. The range has the green light for three out of the four categories.

In addition to the Nature's Goodness range, Farm Frites has a wide selection of non-pre-fried natural potato products which are completely fat-free. The chilled range, which has a 70-day shelf life, includes potato dices, slices, rustic wedges and Parisian potatoes.

The company has also developed caterer support packs for junior and secondary schools.
