Makro announces its exclusive Wine of the Year for 2011

The http://www.makro.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer">Makro cash-and-carry chain has chosen its Wine of the Year for 2011 from Italian winery Cantina Tollo, which won the 2010 Mundus Vini prize as Europe's best wine producer.

The selected wines from Italy's Abruzzo region comprise the red Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Terre degli Eremi 2009 and the white Trebbiano d'Abruzzo Terre degli Eremi 2008.

Both are exclusive to Makro's 30 UK stores and sell for £22.99 for a case of six, or just £3.83 per bottle, providing the opportunity for good margins that will not be undercut by discounting on the High Street.

"We've selected Terre degli Eremi as it offers our catering customers a wine that looks just as good as it tastes. The tapered shape of the bottle, for example, gives a feel of further quality," said Steve Parker, wine buyer at Makro UK.

"The wine is also extremely versatile. For instance, the red goes really well with flavoured pasta dishes, roasted meats and cheese, while the white is ideal with fish and white meat or as an aperitif on a sunny day."
