Meiko UK launch WasteStar food waste handling system

Meiko's new WasteStar CC food waste handling system embodies a philosophy of ‘food waste recycling' rather than food waste disposal.

The freestanding compact system for collecting, processing and storing food can be incorporated into the kitchen at the loading end of large dishwashing machines, or as part of a specialist stainless steel fabrication specification.

Bill Downie, Meiko UK managing director, explained: "We are beginning to see a move away from traditional methods of food waste disposal such as macerating units and Bio-Digestion systems that discharge the material into the main sewer system, into a nation that is embracing kerbside collection of food waste and the sustainable benefits this can deliver,"

"By utilizing the latest generation of organic food waste handling and transport systems, traditional food waste bins holding can be totally eliminated from the kitchen floor plan and no food waste needs be sent to landfill."

The deposited organic food waste in this system is chopped into small particles and then transferred to a remote holding tank via a plastic pipe system. When required, the semi-liquid food waste is collected by the customer's waste contractor for transfer to a Biogas plant to be used for renewable energy purposes, or for converting to a fertilizing product.
