Microwaveable frozen sushi from Nicco Foods

A new line of microwaveable, frozen sushi has been launched in the UK as a low-risk alternative to chilled sushi, where the risk of wastage can eat into food service operators' profit margins.

The frozen line can be prepared to order and served fresh 10 minutes after leaving the freezer. The sushi is made in a state-of-the art, BRC-accredited factory in Northern Europe and hand-finished at the end of the automated lines.

The sushi is sold in two pack sizes, complete with chopsticks and sauces. The 28-piece pack comprises four Nigiri Salmon rice balls, four Nigiri prawn, four Nigiri Surimi, eight Maki Cucumber - pieces of rice, topping and seaweed wrap - and eight Maki Yellow Radish. The 36-piece pack contains six pieces of each variety per tray while a third pack, made up of wrapped chicken, will follow in the New Year.

The frozen sushi is available through Cheshire-based sales agency Nicco Foods, which has already signed up food service distributor Booker.
