Movers and shakers in UK's top 30 wholesaler list
Today's Group's members Dhamecha, HT Drinks, United Wholesale and Elbrook have each moved up a rank in the top 30 UK wholesaler list.
Today's Group's largest UK-based member Dhamecha reported sales of £628m, up 7.4% from the previous year, boosting the London-based cash & carry from number 13 to 12.
On-trade specialist Elbrook Cash & Carry moved up a place from 27 to 26 after reporting sales of £136m and London-based HT Drinks, another on-trade specialist, reported solid sales of £218m and Scotland's United Wholesale hit £212m, with growth of almost 5% compared with the previous year, helping both wholesalers to move up from 18th to 17th and 19th to 18th, respectively.
Delivered wholesale member JW Filshill, which specialises in retail and on-trade, ranked 24th with sales of £158m and a huge 194% increase in profits after streamlining operations.
Commenting on the result, managing director of Today's Bill Laird (pictured) said: "This is a great indicator of the resilience and long-term commitments of our wholesalers to the independent sector. The retailers, caterers, food outlets and publicans that our members work with have aligned themselves to wholesalers that are strong, forward-thinking and who will be around for the long term."
In the same listing compiled by The Grocer magazine, food and drink specialist JJ Food Service has prevailed maintained is 21st position for the third year running.
The independent, family-run business reported sales of £182.7m for the year ending 31 March 2014 with profits soaring by 65%.
A key focus for JJ over the past 12 months has been supporting customers to move online. "Having an online presence is more important than ever, particularly for our restaurant and takeaway customers", said managing director Mustafa Kiamil.
