National Fish & Chips Awards finalists revealed

The UK's top five fish and chip restaurants have been revealed as the search continues to name the winner of the 2020 Fish & Chip awards.

The National Fish & Chips Awards was open to all fish and chip businesses where sit-in customers form the main part of their trade.

The five finalists listed in alphabetical order are:

• Fish City, Belfast, Belfast

• Something Else Fishy, Milborne Port, Sherborne, Dorset

• The Cod's Scallops, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire

• The Fisherman's Wife, Whitby, North Yorkshire

• Trenchers Restaurant, Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear

The shortlisted restaurants were judged on food quality, responsible and sustainable sourcing of ingredients, staff training and career opportunities for young people and innovative menus that make provision for people with allergy or special dietary requirements.

Award category sponsor Alan Pearce, field sales manager at Goldensheaf, said: "These five restaurants really do offer up a masterclass in how best to execute sit-in dining for fish and chips – showing true excellence in every way."

The National Fish & Chips Awards ceremony will be in London on 23 January 2020 and is organised by Seafish, the public body that supports the UK's £10b seafood industry. The overall restaurant winner will be announced along with 14 other category winners including the flagship Fish & Chip Shop of the Year award.
