New Forest Barramundi from M&J Seafood

New Forest Barramundi from M&J Seafood

Barramundi (or Lates calcarifer) is a fish highly prized by caterers and diners in Asia and Australia and provides a more sustainable alternative to over-fished species such as cod. Now M&J Seafood can bring to the table an even greener proposition in terms of food miles - barramundi that is farmed in the New Forest.

Similar to large wild sea bass, barramundi has darker markings and heavier scales and is characterised by moist flesh, large flakes and a sweet, buttery taste. It is sold either as a whole fish (typically weighing 400-600g and priced at £7.25 per kilogram) or as skin-on, boneless fillets weighing between 80g to 90g. The fillets are packed 12 to the case and cost £15 per kilogram.
