Oilsense is a new automated system from PDM that allows caterers to speedily and safely change old oil without the risk of handling the hot liquid and store it safely on site ready for collection by PDM to be recycled as biofuel.
Based on automated units for handling the oil and secure storage systems, Oilsense makes it practical for caterers to change different fryers on different days as the oil becomes spent, which will prevent good oil being thrown away with the bad.
A remotely monitored electronic stock-control system is activated when storage tank levels reach an optimum point, thus reducing the number of collections required.
PDM will also be launching a new initiative to collect food waste from caterers and convert it into renewable energy at its Widnes heat-and-power plant. The service is already available to supermarkets, which provide the Widnes plant with enough waste to generate energy for 20,000 homes.
