Several stars for cheese at Great Taste Awards

Colston Bassett Dairy and Devonshire cheesemakers Quicke's have won multiple stars at this year's Guild of Fine Food Great Taste Awards.

Colston Bassett Dairy's Stilton won three stars and its Shropshire Blue was awarded two. Devonshire cheesemakers Quicke's celebrated six wins including: two stars for both double Devonshire and goats' milk cheeses. Its vintage cheddar, elderflower cheddar, extra mature cheddar and oak smoked cheddar each picked up one star.

Between April and July more than 500 judges worked through 10,000 entries and awarded them one, two or three stars. Only one third of entries received a star.

Tom Chatfield, sales and marketing manager at Quicke's said: "What a whirlwind week! Great Taste means an awful lot to us. What's interesting is that there has been recognition right across the range of Quickes cheeses. We create eleven varieties of clothbound cheeses, and it is fantastic that all flavours continue to be recognised as outstanding!"
