Supplier press release: Learn how to Lean on British turkey at Pub & Bar live

Bernard Matthews Foodservice will be demonstrating how to lean on British turkey as a key ingredient on menus all year round at one of the stops on the 2012 Pub & Bar Live! roadshow.

The leading supplier will be at the Coventry exhibition at the Ricoh Arena on Monday, October 8th, one of three, unique business building days being held across the UK for pub operators.

As well as showing visitors the benefits of British turkey breast , which is growing in popularity as a cost-effective, low in saturated fat and extremely versatile meat, the Bernard Matthews Foodservice team will also be showcasing its Golden Norfolk range of products for roasts.

The frozen range of fully traceable, British turkey cuts and ingredient products range from saddles - the perfect centre piece for a pub carvery - to waste-free, single boneless lobes - perfect for smaller pub operations, all offering superb plate coverage, while maximising profit.

The supplier to the pub trade will also be introducing Golden Norfolk Turkey Tournedos as the newest addition to the range and the perfect way to incorporate turkey on a specials board.

Each individual portion of Quality British turkey breast is marinated for added customer appeal, topped with a pork, apricot and cranberry stuffing and wrapped in streaky bacon. This product is best cooked from defrosted, but can also be cooked from frozen in a conventional oven.

Duncan Marsh, general manager for Bernard Matthews Foodservice, said UK turkey consumption had soared by 20 percent in the past year1, and Pub & Bar Live! was the perfect opportunity for operators in the modern on-trade to explore this underexploited ingredient.

"Brits ate 0.74kg of turkey per head between January and March, up from 0.62kg during the first three months of 20112, with versatility and value for money key selling points," he said.

"Health is also playing a role in uptake, with one in four adults cutting back on red meat for health reasons2, further fuelled by research that shows that replacing a serving of red meat with a healthy protein can reduce chronic disease and lead to a lower mortality risk3.

"At this year's Pub & Bar Live!, we aim to show how pub operators can ‘lean on' British turkey in everything from roasts to world cuisine and the host of options now available to them."

Easy to prepare, cook and serve, Golden Norfolk roasting products are all free from artificial colours, flavours, preservatives and hydrogenated vegetable oils. They are Quality British Turkey and Assured Foods (Red Tractor) certified, with each turkey reared on the company's own farms across Norfolk, Suffolk Lincolnshire in line with the Farm Animal Welfare Council's ‘5 Freedoms'.
