Suppliers acknowledged for contribution to education catering by LACA

Falcon Foodservice Equipment received the Outstanding Supplier of the Year Award at the 2011 Local Authority Caterers Association (LACA) Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony in Birmingham on 7 July.

The award, which is one of the LACA Awards for Excellence, is in recognition of a LACA partner or associate member who has consistently maintained the highest level of support and service excellence to the education catering sector.

Falcon received the greatest number of nominations for the category and judges noted that the company "had an intimate understanding of the industry and a willingness to help that is both highly appreciated and rare in this busy market sector".

At the LACA 2011 School Meals Exhibition, Premier Foods took the top spot for the Innovation Zone which is awarded for a new product or service that offers the most added value to school meals.

The company's new Bird's Ice Cream Mix was developed to allow school caterers to create cost effective desserts without the use of special equipment and requires just water, a whisk and three hours in a refrigerator to create soft serve ice cream.

There was a tie between McCain Foods (GB) and Smartfood UK for the best display at the exhibition.

• Bird's Ice Cream Mix will officially launch in September and school caterers who would like to try the product in advance can call 0845 1221 900 for samples or email for a free demonstration by the Premier Foods home economists' team.
