Creed Foodservice to give preference to green suppliers

Catering provider Creed Foodservice is giving preference to environmentally aware suppliers as part of the company's efforts to go greener.

The initiative forms part of Creed's sustainability and environmental goals. The company has committed itself to becoming carbon neutral by 2025, with its sights set on achieving net zero by 2035.

Creed has been working with corporate climate action consultants ClimatePartner to assist in its efforts to go greener.

As part of the changes being made across Creed, it will also review its suppliers' and potential suppliers' sustainable policies and values.

Creed's sustainability director Philip Creed said: "Where possible, we are looking to stock products from suppliers with clear and defined sustainability policies. It's not only us driving this, but our customers too, who are proactively seeking out brands which demonstrate they are taking a greener approach to food and drink production and manufacturing."

He added that the company stock Re:Water, a British spring water which is bottled in aluminium bottles. Creed said that it requires 95% less energy to produce than standard aluminium bottles and cans.

In addition, the wholesaler is working towards removing all black plastic from its product range. It has also changed its boxes from white boxes with labels to brown cardboard with printed information on to improve recyclability.

The company has also invested over £750,000 in installing over 2,500 solar panels at four of its five sites last year. The company estimates that these panels will reduce its energy consumption by 30%.

Creed concluded: "We knew these targets that we set along with the help of ClimatePartner would be a huge challenge for us, but as a team we are rising to meet them. The concerted commitment to making changes in our day-to-day operations by staff across the board has been incredible. It really is a case of every little helping."
