Craig Dewhurst wins Care Cook of the Year 2010

Craig Dewhurst from Rashwood Elizabeth Finn Homes has been crowned the National Association of Care Catering's (NACC) Cook of the Year 2010.

He beat six finalists to the title at a cook-off held this week in Birmingham with a menu of poached fillet of haddock with rosti potatoes, wilted spinach, a poached egg and marjoram butter, followed by dark chocolate and espresso cream with orange tuille biscuit.

The contest, supported by the Worshipful Company of Cooks, challenges contestants to create a tasty two-course meal at a cost of under £1.30 per person that meets NACC nutritional criteria.

Derek Johnson, national chair of the NACC, said: "The quality of entries in this year's competition was exceptional and reflects the rising standard of food in the care sector. The future of care catering will be safe in the hands of these finalists and their forward thinking employers."

The aim of the contest is to raise the profile of this sector of the catering industry, and highlight the varied culinary skills and talents of cooks in the care sector.
