Celtic Manor Resort buys local inn
The Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, South Wales - venue of the 2010 Ryder Cup - has bought a nearby 200-year-old country inn.
The Newbridge on Usk, which has six bedrooms, is the first acquisition for the five-star, 330-bedroom resort outside of its 1,400 estate. It has been purchased for an undisclosed sum from a partnership which included Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans.
Situated six miles upriver from Celtic Manor in the hamlet of Tedunnock, the pub serves gastropub-style food in an 80-seat restaurant and will continue to be operated as a going concern.
Dylan Matthews, Celtic Manor's chief executive, said that he was looking forward to building on the success of the business, which had earned a deserved reputation for the quality of its food and drink. "The restaurant has a very loyal following and we want to reassure regular customers that it is very much business as usual.
"The Newbridge is in a wonderful position right beside the river and I am sure it will prove very popular with guests staying at the Celtic Manor Resort. It also offers us a fantastic alternative venue to host corporate events and weddings."
