Travelodge has exchanged contracts on two new hotels next to major conference and exhibition venues.
Both hotels, adjacent to the MEN Arena, Manchester, and the NEC in Birmingham, will have 200 bedrooms. They follow the recent announcement of Travelodge hotels close to London ExCel, the Liverpool Echo Arena and the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle.
Having recognised the growing popularity of major venues - with live music generating more money than recorded music for the first time in 2008 - Travelodge is now looking to open hotels at other big venues, such as the O2 in Greenwich, Wembley Arena and the SECC in Glasgow.
Paul Harvey, managing director for development at Travelodge, said that the explosion in the popularity of live music and comedy events in recent years had seen the company's hotels near to arenas out-perform expectations during the recession.
He added: "The NEC in Birmingham and the MEN in Manchester both attract the biggest acts, conferences and events from around the world so I am delighted we have been able to secure these locations. We have identified another three arenas we are looking to build in close proximity to and I hope we will secure those deals soon."
Travelodge operates a total of 30,504 bedrooms across 452 hotels in the UK, Ireland and Spain.
