Goodman's David Strauss to open late-night bar in London
Goodman Restaurant Group's David Strauss will open a bar in Finsbury Park in London this August after a campaign by staff at the pub which previously operated at the venue failed to buy the building's lease.
The 200-capacity Silver Bullet pub operated until 4am as a seven-day, late-night music venue. Strauss, operations director at Goodman, successfully bid for the bar's lease, which had been for sale online for two years.
Staff at the pub launched a campaign to acquire the £300,000 lease and Strauss agreed to sell it back to them if they could raise the necessary support. However only £13,000 was raised, despite support from 3,000 signatories.
Strauss, who lives locally, was surprised at the reaction to the sale, which was "not in any way a confidential sale", but is excited to open the new venue. He told The Caterer that the new bar would keep the existing stage and would feature some live music and that it will be operated independently of other Goodman brands, which include Burger & Lobster and Goodman Steakhouse.
