Greene King announces Christmas boost as festive season gifts good trade to sector
Pub operator Greene King has announced that its sales increased over the festive period amid widespread reporting of a Christmas boost for hospitality outlets.
Like-for-like sales across the pub company grew by 3.2% over the first 36 weeks of its financial year, including Christmas, with the firm reporting that it is continuing to trade ahead of the market, according to the Coffer Peach Business Tracker.
This growth in sales was bolstered by the festive period, which saw a like-for-like sales increase of 10.9% over the two weeks, including Christmas and New Year's Day.
The firm said: "While the ongoing uncertainty around Brexit may still have an impact on consumer confidence and spending during the year, we remain confident of our outlook for the financial year.
"We remain focused on our strategic priorities of driving profitable sales growth, developing a more streamlined and efficient organisation, and further strengthening and improving the flexibility of our capital structure to deliver long-term value for our shareholders."
