Hartford Group buys two more wine bars

Hatford Group has purchased two Brodies wine bars located in the City of London and Canary Wharf, boosting its estate to 22 bars and one restaurant.

The company said it planned to make further acquisitions, in what was currently a challenging market.

Turnover at the company was up 12.8% to £6.9m in the first half of this year compared with £6.1 in 2004.

But due to capital investment, including refurbishment of its Jamies Ludgate Hill site, and an increase in marketing activity, pre-tax profit was 25.4% down at £118,000.

Chairman of Hartford Group, Stephen Thomas, said: "In a market that continues to challenge, these results demonstrate that Hartford has a stable and financially robust core business."
