Sam and Georgie Pearman have added a third property to their new Country Creatures business with the acquisition of the Swan pub with rooms in Ascott-under-Wychwood, Oxfordshire.

The couple paid an undisclosed sum for the freehold of the pub off a guide price of £599,500. Former owners Charlie and Willow Crossley will continue to own and operate the Bull in nearby Charlbury.

Earlier this week the Pearmans relaunched the 26-bedroom Talbot hotel in Malton, North Yorkshire, following a refurbishment on behalf of the owner Tom Naylor-Leyland. It was one of the first projects for Country Creatures, which is focused on creating restaurants, inns and hotels with great British hospitality. The business also operates the Chequers in Churchill, Oxfordshire.

Peter Brunt, a director with Colliers International, which brokered the deal, said: "Sam and Georgie Pearman were the former co-owners of the Lucky Onion group of pubs and hotels backed by Julian Dunkerton of Superdry fame. They have added the Swan to their portfolio and will be looking to develop Country Creatures in to a group of inns and hotels."

The Crossleys bought the Swan in "a very rundown state" in 2016 and set about an ambitious refurbishment. However, they never intended to keep the pub, which has 65 covers, a function room and eight bedrooms.

Brunt added: "The function room could be converted to provide two or three additional letting rooms, but no planning permission has been made.

"Net turnover of £406,000 during its build-up year underlines the huge growth opportunities at one of my favourite Cotswold pubs."
