Whitbread pumps £14m into business park

Leisure giant Whitbread is to invest up to £14m in Gloucester Business Park.

Building work began in late March on a 220-seat Brewers Fayre pub and a 48-bedroom Premier Travel Inn on the 27-acre Whittle Centre leisure complex.

The company is also waiting for planning permission on a neighbouring David Lloyd health and fitness club.

Whitbread development director Desmond Taljaard said: "We are thrilled to be part of this exciting new development, which is sure to make a major contribution to the prosperity of the local area."

The hotel and restaurant operator, which has 254 Brewers Fayre pubs and more than 445 Premier Travel Inns in the UK, estimates the three new businesses will create 200 jobs.

The overall 220-acre business park project includes retail, office and residential units, which will be built on the site of the former Gloster Aircraft Company.
