Young's appoints Christopher Sandland as non-executive chairman

Brewing firm Young and Co has appointed Christopher Sandland, former company secretary and personnel director, as its non-executive chairman.

Sandland, who has been with Young's for 32 years, succeeds John Young, chairman for 44 years, who died last month after a long battle with cancer.

Sandland began his Young's career as a cost accountant, then data processing manager and management accountant before studying for an MBA at the London Business School, sponsored by Young's.

He became personnel manager on his return to the brewery in 1981 and later combined this role with that of company secretary.

Sandland became personnel director of Young's in 1990 and retired as an executive director in April this year.

He rejoined the board as a non-executive director in July.
