Latest openings: Arkle at the Chester Grosvenor, Social Pantry and more
Arkle
The restaurant formerly run by Simon Radley at the Chester Grosvenor hotel has relaunched as Arkle following a £250,000 refurbishment.
Radley left the five-red-AA-star Cheshire property in October to pursue other opportunities after more than 30 years at the helm of his eponymous restaurant.
Arkle is overseen by the hotel's new executive chef Elliott Hill, a National Chef of the Year finalist in 2021 and former head chef at Panoramic 34 in Liverpool and Oddfellows Chester. It offers an eight-course tasting menu priced at £110 Tuesday to Thursday and £125 on Friday and Saturday, with an optional £75 wine flight.
Sample dishes include chicken en gelée; blanc of wild turbot; fillet of beef; and tatws pum munud (five minute potatoes) – Hill's take on a traditional Welsh dish, inspired by his father. A vegetarian and plant-based version of the menu costs £95 Tuesday to Thursday and £110 on Friday and Saturday.
The restaurant's closure meant it missed out on retaining its star in the 2022 Michelin Guide, but the team said they were focused on delivering the same standards of service for which the hotel has always been known.
