Mercato Metropolitano MD Amedeo Claris steps down

The managing director of Mercato Metropolitano Amedeo Claris has stepped down after five years in the role.

Founder and CEO Andrea Rasca will continue to lead the operation, which has three community markets in London, focusing on small producers and sustainable food.

He said: "We would like to thank Amedeo for the unwavering support, strategic contribution and professionalism during his time at Mercato Metropolitano. We wish him the very best for the future."

Mercato Metropolitano will see a fourth site launch in Wood Wharf in London's Canary Wharf in January 2022, while another market in Ilford East London is due to open later in the year.

The group will also be launching a European flagship in Berlin during the first half of 2022, while the operator hopes to open sites in other cities around the world, including Milan.

Claris, who has a background in private equity and venture capital, said: "It has been a great honour to help build Mercato Metropolitano in the UK from the ground up, but above all to be part of the ‘MMovement'. I hope to see an MM market in every city in the world."
