Alan Carr to transform Scottish castle into luxury hotel and spa

Disney+ will document Carr’s transformation of the castle into a luxury hotel, with Clarkson’s Farm producer Expectation behind the series

Ayton Castle Allan Carr

Celebrity Traitors winner Alan Carr has purchased a Scottish castle with plans to turn it into a luxury hotel and spa.

The television comedian purchased Ayton Castle, in the Scottish Borders, for £3.25m. The house has 17 bedrooms and sits on 160 acres of land.

The 19th century castle also has its own 600m-long miniature railway line, complete with platforms, sheds and ticket office, that runs through the grounds.

Disney+ will follow Carr as he transforms the castle into a luxury hotel, in a Hulu Original series, with the working title ‘Castle Man’.

The series will be produced by Expectation, the production company behind Clarkson’s Farm.

Carr said: Some men when they have a midlife crisis buy a Lamborghini or grow a ponytail, but me – I want my very own castle. Since I was a boy in Northampton, I’ve always dreamt big, and have always been enchanted with the history and romance of a stately home and as I turn 50, I feel it’s my time. All I want is a turret to call my own – get me over that drawbridge!”
