Compass to buy Swissair's catering businesses for £40.7m

Compass Group has confirmed it is to buy Restorama and Rail Gourmet from troubled airline group Swissair.

 

It is also buying parts of Swissair’s Gourmet Nova business, including Gourmet Nova Finland, which operates airport restaurants.

 

Compass will pay about £40.7m in cash for the businesses.

Bailey: “strong reputations”

When the deal was first mooted in July, it was intended to include an exchange of assets, with Swissair acquiring Compass’s Eurest In-Flight airline catering business.
But Compass now says Eurest In-Flight “continues to be a valued member of the Group”.

 

Restorama provides foodservice for clients (mainly in the business and industry sector) in various countries including Switzerland, Germany and Austria.

 

Gourmet Nova provides foodservice at airport restaurants, including at Helsinki’s Vantaa Airport.

 

Compass Group chief executive Mike Bailey said: “These acquisitions are an excellent strategic move for the Group. Rail Gourmet, Restorama and Gourmet Nova are businesses with strong reputations in their target markets, augmenting the Group’s existing business in these sectors.”
