Greene King picks star summer meal through MasterChef-style cook-off

The head chef of Greene King's Cross House pub in Liverpool has provided the star dish for its new summer menu after winning a MasterChef-style competition held between the brewers' chefs.

Marc Henry's winning meal of baked cod fillet and crushed new potatoes with bacon and peas beat off competition from three other finalists and will be added to the menu of Old English Inns (the brewer's inns and hotel division) from 27 April.

MasterChef â€" challenged more than 100 Greene King chefs to create a new dish within 90 minutes. Each dish was rated by aroma, texture and taste by a panel of food experts.

“Marc’s dish was an absolute triumph. It had all of the ingredients we were looking for to create the perfect meal for summer, as I’m sure our customers will agree,” said Mike Jeffery, food development manager at Greene King and a competition judge.

“It was such an enjoyable experience, despite the pressure”, commented Henry. “I was up against over 100 of Greene King’s top chefs so really dug deep and gave it my all. The judges had poker faces throughout the process so to handle the pressure and win the competition was fantastic!”Â
