London's Pharmacy restaurant closes

Pharmacy, the 108-seat restaurant and bar in London's Notting Hill, has closed after six years.

It is understood that restaurant's owner, Hartford Group, received an offer from its landlord to take back the restaurant that it felt unable to refuse. Marks & Spencer is thought to be lined up to take over the site.

But Pharmacy "hasn't been performing brilliantly well", said insiders.
Hartford is now understood to be looking for alternative work within its other London restaurants for Pharmacy's 65 staff.

The restaurant was opened in 1997 by artist Damien Hirst and public relations chief Matthew Freud. It joined the AIM stock market a year later.
