Seven out of 10 travellers in the USA say they have not changed their travel plans following the 11 September attacks, according to the Travel Industry Association (TIA) of America.
A TIA survey of 1,000 adults conducted in mid-September found that before the attacks, 39% of Americans (78 million) had plans to take a leisure trip within the next three months and 69% of them (54 million) said they had made no changes to their travel plans.
But 12% (9.4 million) had cancelled one or more leisure trips and 8% (6.3 million) had rescheduled one or more trips to a later date.
In the next six months, 58% of US adults planned to take a leisure trip, the survey found. Of those not planning to travel, 20% cited financial concerns as the main reason.
Only 12% said they would not travel because of concerns over security and 4% were concerned about the inconvenience of travel these days.
