Sheffield sets up correspondence

SHEFFIELD Hallam University is to run the first distance-learning course leading to an MSc in hospitality, starting in September.

The course will be available to people with experience in the industry, and as a conversion course to graduates without experience.

The course will consist of four units, taught through correspondence and telephone tutorials over a period of approximately two years depending on the students' pace of work.

Students will be assessed continuously on the basis of their written assignments, and will have to attend one of three weekend study schools.

The fees are estimated to be slightly higher than for full-time courses. It is anticipated that more than 30 students will take up places at the second enrolment inJanuary.
