Mercure enlists Masters of Wine couple to launch new concept

Mercure hotels has enlisted Susie Barrie and Peter Richards as ambassadors for its new wine concept.

The married couple, who are both Masters of Wine, have chosen a selection for Mercure's Flavours from the Cellar range, which will be rolled out across its 72 UK hotels this month.

The wines will be locally inspired and affordable, with three wines chosen to suit the particular location of each hotel. Barrie and Richards will also choose three more unusual wines to sit at the heart of each hotel's Flavours from the Cellar list.

Among the wines they have chosen is Adega de Pegões Colheita Seleccionada 2013, which they describe as "The Portuguese Special One".

They also recommend Boer & Brit Suikerbossie Pinotage Petit Verdot 2012 from South Africa.

"The name is inspired by an Afrikaans love song and this eclectic blend of South Africa's very own Pinotage grape variety with Bordeaux's Petit Verdot makes for a soft-textured but juicy and smoky red. Utterly heart-warming," the pair said.
