Gordon Ramsay Restaurants has taken on the former site of D&D’s Haugen in London’s Stratford, which it will relaunch as a10,000 sq ft Bread Street Kitchen & Bar.

Pavilion at Lendlease’s Stratford Cross has confirmed the signing of the restaurant, which marks the sixth London opening under the Bread Street Kitchen brand.

D&D’s 544-cover Alpine-inspired Haugen launched in late 2021 and permanently closed last year.

Opening on 3 June, Bread Street Kitchen & Bar will span three levels and include a 3,000 sq ft rooftop bar offering al-fresco dining with views of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Additional areas will be available for private dining and events, while the ground floor café will offer a community workspace.

Guy Thomas, head of retail & place assets at Lendlease, said: “The Pavilion is the landmark building for Stratford, in the heart of a neighbourhood that has fast become a cultural and creative hub for London.

"We knew how important it would be to enliven such an iconic building, and secured Gordon Ramsey following a surrender of the former D&D lease.”

Andy Wenlock, chief executive of Gordon Ramsay Restaurants, said: “The bold vision for Stratford Cross is what initially attracted Gordon and I to the destination. Spending time within its energetic, creative neighbourhood and inclusive community, there is no doubt it is an ideal home for us.”

Stratford Cross is a mixed-use development that grew out of a £2.4b joint venture between Lendlease and regeneration specialist LCR. It is also home to offices and will welcome an Everyman Cinema and the Turing Building later this year.

The announcement comes soon after Gordon Ramsay revealed he will be expanding his Lucky Cat and Bread Street Kitchen restaurants into the top of 22 Bishopsgate in London in 2025.
