BONDI LEAVES NOVOTEL TO JOIN ANDREW WEIR

 

PETER Bondi is leaving Novotel to become operations director for the expanding Andrew Weir Hotels group, based in Bedfordshire.

 

Mr Bondi joined Novotel early last year as southern regional manager from another Accor brand, Ibis UK, where he was director of operations.

 

Mr Bondi stayed with Novotel as manager of its Heathrow hotel when it abolished all regional manager positions last spring.

 

Replacing him at the Novotel Heathrow is Jean Bowcott, former general manager for the Novotel Newcastle.

 

Elswhere in the group, Dominique Colliat has taken over as general manager at the Novotel Birmingham Airport, after managing two Novotels at Bas du Fort in Guadeloupe.

 

Ms Colliat, who joined Accor in 1977, takes over at Birmingham from Christophe Landais, who left to manage the Novotel at Hammersmith in west London earlier this year (Caterer, 17 March).

 

McQUATER STIRS WETHERSPOON

 

MARK McQuater is to become managing director of pub operator JD Wetherspoon, allowing the present managing director and founder of the chain, Tim Martin, to concentrate on his duties as chairman.

 

Mr McQuater was involved in corporate development for Scottish & Newcastle for three years, and most recently worked in the venture capital field.

 

CRAIGENDARROCH CHOOSES MITCHELL

 

CRAIG Mitchell is the new managing director of the Craigendarroch Group of three Scottish four-star hotels.

 

Mr Mitchell takes charge of country house hotels Cameron House beside Loch Lomond, and the Craigendarroch Hotel in Royal Deeside. The third in the group is the Westpoint Hotel in East Kilbride.

 

Mr Mitchell also retains responsibility for the group's two luxury timeshare lodge resorts located in the grounds of the Craigendarroch and Cameron House hotels.

 

He takes over from Nigel Joyce, who remains with the group's parent company, Cannon Street Investments.

 

SWAPPING PAYTON FOR PROFILE

 

HARVEY Pascoe, who took charge of Bob Payton's Stapleford Park country house hotel near Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire in 1993, has moved into recruitment consultancy with London-based Profile.

 

Mark Scott has replaced him at Stapleford Park, joining from the Washington Hotel, in London's Curzon Street, where he was deputy general manager.

 

WOODWARD JOINS WALDORF

 

DAVID Woodward has become general manager of the Waldorf hotel in London, part of Forte Grand.

 

Mr Woodward, who replaces Bill Martens, was most recently general manager of the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza in Washington DC.

 

He previously worked for Forte in London at Grosvenor House, Hyde Park and Brown's hotels.

Paula Salerno has been promoted to general manager at the Brighton Oak Hotel, following the promotion of Harry Charalambous to managing director for the Oak Hotels group.

 

Deborah Roslin to general manager at the Green Park Hotel in Harrogate, from manager at Wrangham House Hotel in Hunmanby, together forming the North Yorkshire-based Erwood Hotels group.

 

Paul Stretton to conference and banqueting co-ordinator at the Holiday Inn Leicester, from night auditor for the hotel.

 

Tracey Cox to conference and banqueting co-ordinator at Leicester City Football Club, from a similar position at the Holiday Inn Leicester. Paul Young to the club's restaurant manager, from a similar position at the Noke Thistle hotel in St Albans in Hertfordshire.

 

Jenni Cowlishaw to sales manager at the Stakis Stoke-on-Trent hotel, Staffordshire, from eastern regional sales manager based at the group's Nottingham hotel.

 

Simon Cotton to sales and marketing manager for the Holiday Inn Newcastle, from senior sales executive at the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza Heathrow.

 

Steve Ross to catering national account manager for Sovereign Food Group, from a similar position within the John Lusty group.

 

Jeremy Fowler to executive head chef at Royal Brunei Catering in Brunei in South-east Asia, from proprietor and manager of Antons wine bar and restaurant and Alexanders brasserie, both in Beverley, Humberside.

 

Michael Hobson to sales and marketing director for the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, from a similar position with Omni Hotels, also based in Hong Kong.

 

Keith Pullen to executive chef at the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza Malta, from partner in a catering consultancy in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

 

Robert Whitfield to general manager of the Royal St Lucian Hotel in St Lucia, from executive assistant manager at the hotel.

 

OBITUARY: JOHN BOSMAN

 

John Bosman, assistant general manager at London's Savoy hotel in the 1950s, has died aged 76.

 

After leaving the Savoy, his career took him to the Bull Hotel in Burford, Oxfordshire, and the Stafford Hotel in London, among others.
