The ’apprenticeship-style’ six-month courses are tailored to entry-level professional bakers.
The new Bread Ahead Academy offers six-month baking courses aimed at entry-level professional bakers.
Artisan bakery company Bread Ahead has announced the launch of its Bread Ahead Academy aimed at professional bakers.
The Bread Ahead Academy will offer a six-month "apprenticeship-style" course designed to help encourage the next generation of professional bakers into the industry.
The vocational course will combine classroom theory through a curriculum-led programme covering topics including bread, Viennoiserie and pastry, with practical bakery experience offered at Bread Ahead’s Borough and Wembley sites in London.
The course aims to provide students with essential skills needed to pursue a career in baking and could appeal to a wide range of applicants, from school-leavers to those wishing to seek a career change.
Bread Ahead was founded in 2013 by Matthew Jones. The business has seven sites in London, as well as a further three in Dubai, Jeddah and Riyadh. Bread Ahead also operates on a wholesale basis and offers workshops aimed at consumers at its two Bread Ahead Bakery Schools in Borough and Wembley.
"The Bread Ahead Academy represents a significant evolution in our teaching journey," said Jones.
"We are thrilled to offer this apprenticeship programme to a new generation of bakers, providing them with the necessary tools and experience to go on and excel in the industry."
Bread Ahead is offering six free places on its pilot Academy in September. Applications will be accepted from 13-26 May for the course beginning 4 September 2024.
Full price for the 24-week course will be revealed at a later date.
Beyond the pilot programme, Bread Ahead is also exploring options to support candidates who may need financial assistance to take part in future courses including sponsorship and bursaries
