It marks the hospitality group’s first collaboration since Martin Williams was appointed chief executive in February
The Evolv Collection (formerly D&D) has announced its first restaurant partnership since Martin Williams took over as chief executive.
Scott Hallsworth’s pan-Asian concept Freak Scene will occupy a pop-up residency in 100 Wardour Street in London’s Soho from 22 July to the end of November under its collaboration with Evolv.
100 Wardour Street was previously home to the old Marquee Club, which turned into Mezzo when the site was taken over by Terence Conran’s collection of restaurants. Conran founded D&D in 1991.
Hallsworth made a name for himself leading the kitchens at Nobu London and Nobu Melbourne before launching Kurobuta across London’s Chelsea, Knightsbridge and Marble Arch.
In 2017, he started Freak Scene as a pop-up in London’s Soho, which has since grown into two sites in Parsons Green and Balham.
Williams said: “I’ve been a fan of Scott’s restaurants and food since his Kurobuta days. His creativity, edge, and attention to flavour have always set him apart. We’re proud to be hosting Freak Scene at 100 Wardour Street as the only Asian concept in our group – it’s a partnership that makes fantastic sense and promises a great future.”
Hallsworth added: “This is possibly the most exciting news I’ve been able to share since founding Freak Scene all those years ago. Not only are we heading back to our Soho roots, but we get to team up with the brilliant Evolv Collection at its iconic 100 Wardour Street. I can barely wait!”
Since leaving Rare Restaurants in October 2024 and joining Evolv Collection in February, Williams has sought to modernise the company’s portfolio through the launch of a Bluebird at South Place hotel in London, as well as two Bluebird Club private members clubs in the City and Chelsea.
Evolv operates restaurants and hotels across London, Birmingham, Manchester and New York.
